EHRZ is Yamawa’s innovative roll tap that sets new application standards for threading medium-hardness steels. It is the ideal solution for operations requiring high-precision threads and superior surface finishes, while eliminating the challenges associated with chip production.

Part of the Z-PRO high-performance series, the EHRZ is a highly advanced tap engineered for thread forming in steels with hardness up to 40 HRC and stainless steel.

Yamawa has developed a unique lobe profile for the EHRZ tap which, combined with a specialized coating, maximizes the benefits of the surface treatment. This design significantly reduces tapping torque, ensuring extended tool life and consistently precise threads.

The flutes are slightly wider than those of conventional roll taps, allowing for increased lubricant flow. This results in enhanced lubrication and more efficient cooling, significantly improving overall wear resistance. Thanks to the optimized HSS-Co substrate and the proprietary Yamawa coating, EHRZ taps deliver exceptional performance when forming threads in medium-hardness steels and stainless steels.

Workshop tests clearly demonstrate the efficiency of this new product. For example, when threading hardened 42CrMo4 (40 HRC), the torque measured for the EHRZ was considerably lower than that of a conventional roll tap under the same conditions. Furthermore, while the conventional product showed signs of wear after 900 holes, Yamawa’s innovative tap continued to perform effectively after 1,600 holes.

EHRZ is currently available from stock with metric threads in diameters ranging from M3 to M16 and MF8x1 to MF16x1.5.
